Quick answer: Frostallion Noct is the Dark variant of the Ice Legendary, and it has the second-highest combined stat line in Palworld 1.0 — 140 Attack, 140 HP and 135 Defense (only Panthalus, at 500, totals more). Our check of all 44,850 pairings in the 1.0 combination table (PalCalc game-file dataset) found exactly two ways to breed it: the special combination Frostallion + Helzephyr, or Frostallion Noct + Frostallion Noct. It also appears as a level 65 Alpha on Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3, but breeding is the route you can plan around.
Frostallion Noct has no ordinary wild spawns. The 1.0 guides that describe it as breeding-only are out of date in one respect: it does appear as an Alpha boss, from level 65, on Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3, the small isolated island in the north-east of the Palpagos map (gamehosting.app; patchcrazy.co.uk's 1.0 guide puts the same Alpha at level 65 on Sanctuary No. 3). That is the lowest-level Alpha sighting reported — do not go looking for it in the Astral Mountains, where its Ice counterpart lives; Noct occupies a different region entirely.
That Alpha is a late-game fight, not a shortcut. Frostallion Noct is a Dark-type Pal, so Dragon-type attackers are the counter (timesaver.gg), where its Ice counterpart is weak to Fire instead — bringing the wrong element team is the most common reason this fight goes badly. Arrive at a comparable level, weaken it steadily, and throw your best spheres.
Frostallion is itself a true-breeding-only Legendary: the only way to breed one is Frostallion + Frostallion, so your first Frostallion must be caught. It is the level 60 Alpha field boss on the frozen lake in the Astral Mountains, just east of the Land of Absolute Zero fast-travel statue, at roughly (-357, 508) (timesaver.gg, verified against the 1.0 legendary index).
Frostallion is a pure Ice type, weak to Fire — bring Fire-type Pals such as Ragnahawk, Blazehowl or Suzaku, wear cold-resistance armour for the freezing biome, and pack Legendary Spheres (timesaver.gg). Full details are in our How to Get Frostallion guide. One Frostallion of either gender starts the line, provided your Helzephyr is the opposite gender.
Helzephyr is the easy half of the pair, and the one players most often get wrong by hunting at the wrong time. It is a nocturnal Dark-type flyer: Game8's current page lists it at the Ancient Ritual Site at night, with Feybreak and Grass Biome North wild spawns, and vgkami's 1.0 location guide lists representative night-route spawns from level 24 upward, including (141, -191) at levels 24–26 and (22, -222) at 25–28. Hunt at night, look for the glowing blue wing and tail accents, and lure it down with ranged attacks — it flies high and will not come to you.
Because Helzephyr is Dark-type, Dragon attackers are the right matchup (vgkami), and its capture rate is ordinary rather than generous, so bring more than one sphere. From the 1.0 game files, Helzephyr is Paldeck No. 80, rarity 7, with 125 Attack, 100 HP and 100 Defense and Transporting 4 as its only work suitability — a mid-game Pal that is worth catching on its own merits, but here it is simply the key to the Noct egg.
Put one male and one female parent — one Frostallion, one Helzephyr — in a Breeding Farm with a Cake in the chest, and the result is a Huge Dark Egg. The combination is one of the 77 special combinations in 1.0: it overrides the normal breeding-power calculation entirely, so it works whatever the parents' breeding powers (gamehosting.app). That is why the pairing is guaranteed where ordinary recipes are a calculation — Frostallion + Helzephyr always makes Frostallion Noct, and no other pair of different Pals does.
We verified that against the full table: of all 44,850 pairings, only Frostallion + Helzephyr and Frostallion Noct + Frostallion Noct produce Frostallion Noct. Once you own your first Noct, the line is self-sustaining — true-breeding lets you roll for better passives without going back to the Sanctuary Alpha or re-catching parents. Budget Cake from our cake guide, and check any recipe in the breeding calculator before committing parents.
Older guides calling it breeding-only, and others placing it in the Astral Mountains, are both out of date: the 1.0 position is a Sanctuary No. 3 Alpha and the special combination. If you already own a Frostallion, breeding is faster and safer than the level 65 fight.
From the 1.0 game files, Frostallion Noct is Paldedex No. 200 (variant), rarity 20, with 140 Attack, 140 HP and 135 Defense, a ride speed of 1800, and Gathering 7 as its only work suitability. The rankings tell the story: 6th of 299 for Attack, 7th for HP and 6th for Defense, and a combined 415 that is the second-highest total in the game. Its Ice counterpart totals 400 (140/140/120), so the Dark variant is not a reskin — it is 15 Defense better, with a different element, a different work line (Gathering 7 instead of Cooling 7) and a different partner skill.
The partner skill is Black Steed: it lets Frostallion Noct be ridden as a flying mount and converts your damage to Dark type while mounted (consolechronicle.com). A 1.0 guide puts its saddle unlock at Technology level 62 (xboxplay.games, guide-reported — the dataset does not carry saddle levels). At ride speed 1800 it matches Frostallion — see our fastest flying mounts ranking.
One more reason breeders chase it first: gamehosting.app reports that every Frostallion Noct is born with Legend and Lord of the Underworld, bred or caught, without needing to inherit them — our best passive skills tier list explains which rank-4 passives are worth adding on top.
Frostallion + Helzephyr — a special combination that always produces a Huge Dark Egg. The only other pairing is Frostallion Noct + Frostallion Noct. No other pair of different Pals makes it, out of all 44,850 pairings in the 1.0 table.
As a level 65 Alpha on Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 in the north-east of the map (gamehosting.app; patchcrazy.co.uk). It has no ordinary wild spawns — do not search the Astral Mountains, where Frostallion lives. Breeding Frostallion + Helzephyr is the planned route for most players.
Frostallion is the level 60 Alpha on the frozen lake in the Astral Mountains at roughly (-357, 508), weak to Fire (timesaver.gg). Helzephyr is a nocturnal Dark flyer found at night, including the Ancient Ritual Site (Game8) and low-level night routes around (141, -191) (vgkami); use Dragon attackers against it.
From the 1.0 game files: Paldeck No. 200 (variant), rarity 20, 140 Attack (6th of 299), 140 HP (7th), 135 Defense (6th), ride speed 1800, Gathering 7. Its partner skill Black Steed lets it fly as a mount and converts your damage to Dark.
On stats, yes: 415 total against Frostallion's 400, entirely from +15 Defense, with a Dark typing and Black Steed instead of Ice typing and Ice Steed. Frostallion keeps the better base job (Cooling 7 against Gathering 7), so keep the Ice original for base cooling and use Noct for combat and Dark-team mounts.
