Quick answer: Menasting is the Dark/Ground scorpion Pal with one of the best defensive stat lines in Palworld 1.0 — 130 Defense, 13th-highest of all 299 Pals — and a Partner Skill, Steel Scorpion, that raises your Defense and makes Electric Pals drop more items (Game8). In 1.0, catch the level 44 Alpha at The Furthest Mineshaft in the Dessicated Desert, around (350, 539) (Game8; AllThings. How gives (350, 537)), or breed it: our check of all 44,850 pairings in the 1.0 combination table (PalCalc game-file dataset) found 181 recipes, easiest first Wumpo + Leafan.
Menasting has two routes to your Palbox, and the Alpha boss is the most reliable first one — but only if you use the 1.0 location. The 1.0 update moved a large number of Alpha bosses, and Menasting is one of them: the old Dessicated Mineshaft spot around (515, 102) no longer holds it (AllThings. How's 1.0 Alpha relocation table). The current Alpha, titled Unstoppable Stinger, sits in The Furthest Mineshaft in the Dessicated Desert, around (350, 539) — Game8's current 1.0 location page gives (350, 539) and AllThings. How gives (350, 537) for the same mineshaft, so treat the last digits as approximate and look for the boss health bar before committing to the fight.
The second route is wild spawns. Game8's 1.0 page lists Desert Biome wild spawns alongside the Furthest Mineshaft Alpha, and the game files put wild Menastings at levels 31–44. Menasting is nocturnal in the game files, so night hunting in the desert improves your odds. Older guides also list rare spawns on Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2, but that is not a 1.0-verified route — the desert and the Alpha are the routes to plan around. Bring heat-resistant armour for the desert.
Menasting is a Dark/Ground Pal. GameLeap's boss guide recommends Dragon or Grass-type Pals: Dragon hits Dark hard, and Grass punishes the Ground half. Avoid using Electric Pals as damage dealers — you want them alive later for Steel Scorpion farming.
Expect a level 44 boss with a very thick hide. At 130 Defense, Menasting shrugs off weak hits, so arrive at a comparable level, weaken it steadily, and then throw Ultra Spheres or better. TheGamer's boss guide puts the Alpha's respawn at about an hour after defeat, so a failed catch is a delay, not a lost opportunity. Defeating or catching Menasting drops Medium Pal Souls and Venom Glands in 1.0 (Game8).
From the 1.0 game files, Menasting is Paldedex No. 99, rarity 9, with 100 Attack, 100 HP and 130 Defense. The ranking tells the story: 128th of 299 for Attack and 120th for HP, but 13th for Defense. Menasting is not your damage dealer — it is the wall you hide behind, and the Partner Skill is what turns that wall into a farming tool.
The work line is genuinely useful: Mining 5 and Lumbering 3 — an upper-tier ore miner that also clears timber. The Partner Skill, Steel Scorpion, is unique to Menasting (Game8) and needs no Pal Gear: while Menasting is in your party, it increases your Defense by 5% at skill level 1, rising to 10% at level 5, and makes Electric Pals drop 40% more items at level 1, rising to 80% at level 5 (Game8, via Starfruits). That second effect is the real prize — park Menasting in your party and farm Electric Pals for their drops at nearly double rates.
We searched the entire 1.0 combination table (all 44,850 pairings, PalCalc game-file dataset): 181 pairings produce Menasting. The easiest verified pairs, by combined breeding power, are:
Once you own a pair, Menasting + Menasting true-breeds, so perfecting passives is a matter of Cake and patience — budget that Cake from our cake guide, and check any recipe in the breeding calculator before committing parents. Breed for defensive and work passives from our best passive skills tier list if Menasting will sit in your party buffing you, or for combat passives if it will tank bosses.
Do not trust the old guides. We checked the six Early Access recipes still circulating — Sibelyx + Suzaku, Pyrin + Cryolinx, Cinnamoth + Blazamut, Penking + Blazamut, Mossanda + Shadowbeak and Nitewing + Paladius — against the 1.0 table, and none of them hatches Menasting any more. That is the same 1.0 reshuffle our breeding guide warns about: pre-1.0 recipes are the most common reason a breeding farm produces the wrong Pal.
Menasting has a Ground variant, Menasting Terra, and it comes from exactly one special combination: Menasting + Knocklem. That is one of the 77 variant special combinations in 1.0, and the only cross-species route to the Terra form — it otherwise only true-breeds from two Terra parents. The variant trades a little Attack for a better work line: 105 Attack, 100 HP, 130 Defense, with Mining 6 and Lumbering 3, making it the better pure miner. Menasting is also a special-combination parent in its own right: Lyleen + Menasting hatches Lyleen Noct, covered in our How to Get Lyleen guide.
As a level 44 Alpha boss at The Furthest Mineshaft in the Dessicated Desert, around (350, 539) (Game8; AllThings. How gives (350, 537)). The old Dessicated Mineshaft spot around (515, 102) is pre-1.0. Game8 also lists Desert Biome wild spawns at levels 31–44.
181 of the 44,850 pairings in the 1.0 combination table. The cheapest verified routes are Wumpo + Leafan, Sootseer + Icelyn and Suzaku + Cryolinx, and Menasting + Menasting true-breeds. All six Early Access recipes we checked (including Penking + Blazamut and Mossanda + Shadowbeak) no longer work in 1.0.
Menasting is Dark/Ground, so Dragon and Grass-type attackers are the recommended picks for the Alpha fight (GameLeap). Its 130 Defense means you should arrive at a comparable level and weaken it steadily before throwing Ultra Spheres or better.
Steel Scorpion, unique to Menasting (Game8), needs no Pal Gear: while Menasting is in your party, your Defense rises 5% to 10% and Electric Pals drop 40% to 80% more items from skill level 1 to 5 (via Starfruits). It does not stack.
Breed Menasting + Knocklem — the only special combination that produces the Ground variant. Otherwise, Menasting Terra only true-breeds from two Terra parents. It has 105 Attack, 100 HP, 130 Defense, Mining 6 and Lumbering 3.
From the 1.0 game files: Paldeck No. 99, rarity 9, 100 Attack, 100 HP, 130 Defense (13th of 299), Mining 5 / Lumbering 3, Steel Scorpion (Game8). Wild spawns are levels 31–44 and nocturnal.
