We previously reported that Palworld has been one of the most popular games around the world since it launched but it is losing significant part of their playerbase. With twelve million players on Steam and seven million on Xbox Game Pass, Palworld has become a top-selling game and manages to pull in two million concurrent players. There were around 2.1 million concurrent players when the game was at its peak, which now remains around 34000 as per SteamDB.
The game is still under development, which means the complete experience of the game is not here. Many things are still broken, and basic things like ANTI-Cheat, multiplayer, PvP, and many more are missing. Although PocketPair confirms they are prioritizing and addressing the game’s bugs to further optimize the game and improve its performance.
Palworld concurrent Steam players dropped significantly after launch.
It is not quite uncommon for games to start seeing a decline in player base after the initial release of the game. We have seen the game go down, especially if the game does not bring any new content for players to engage with. Losing some of the players is quite normal, but indeed, it has been maintaining a healthy player base since last month, but now that also seems to be losing over time.
Many experts have been saying the peak was because of the hype around the game, Pokemon’s inspired game, which helped the game attract many eyeballs. Many want to play Pokémon in an open-world game like Palworld, which offers survival and crafting with Pokémon-like characters. This might not hold the same long-term appeal as other games. Some estimated the remaining players would not stick around at this point even until the new update arrived.
Players moving to new games will come back to future releases.
Since the game is currently in early access, the game often has a content cycle when players come back to the game to try new features. As Palworld adds more, it will bring those people back, and it is normal after a while when they experience a new release, so drops after the launch are normal, but dedicated fans might return with the new release. It is part of the natural ebb and flow of the game, and there is always a chance for players to rebound.
2024 alone will have a lot of notable releases. This includes massive RPG games and classic games with a variety of genres and innovative games to choose from. Gamers have a lot of options to try and play the game, which makes it harder for early-access games like Palworld to retain their player base. It is indeed normal, better said to be part of the lifecycle for many early access games; this also contributes to the fluctuation in player numbers for the individual games, while the drop-in players can be seen as the normal part of the game’s development process when taken into account.
Palworld Loss Most of its players are not unique.
Palworld drops may look dramatic, but when you look at the combination of factors like launch hype, early access imitation, and competitive markets, it’s not a unique position to hold. It is exciting that many new games are released, and the industry keeps evolving the gaming experience that developers bring to the game. It is normal for players to emphasize the current content and wait for new content before returning to the game.
4 Mount is a decent amount of time for initial excitement to wane in an early-access title. It is always possible that we will see a resurgence in players’ interest as the PocketPair developers continue to update and improve the game. Not only brings in the old players but also adds new players. PocketPair is also open to working with big studios to make the game more stable. Likewise, they have already been working with Microsoft to make the game better with their resources ahead of its release.
In addition to this, PocketPair also shared their interest in expanding the game to new players like Nintendo, PlayStation, and more in the future. By adding a new platform, they can add new players to the game, which will boost the player base of the game. Once the game enters the new platform, it also means they will be facing more competition and must stand out and promote the game on those platforms. Since the studio of PocketPaitr is still small, they are outsourcing many things, which is why we are not seeing the game being available on a new platform in the very immediate future.
However, developers are positive that the game will recover its players once it receives the new major update. Recently, they started inviting beta testers to test out the new build, which is expected to bring new palettes and mods. There could be many more exciting things that we don’t know yet, and many more to be available later in the year, as PocketPair has already shared the Roadmap for 2024.
We encourage users to check the recent reviews and community decisions, or you can stay tuned to PalworldGaming to continue receiving insider reports. Until now, there were only five games that reached over 1.3 concurrent players, in which the average player count was around 50K a day on Steam. Other platforms might have around the same number of players. One example is PUBG, which has 500,000 active players at any given moment.
