Whether you want to build better gear, create saddles to ride your Pals, or just pimp out your camp – you’re going to need resources. And one of the most valuable resources is leather. Leather is used in dozens of recipes for armor, accessories, furniture, and equipment. But getting your hands on a steady supply isn’t exactly easy. No Pal has “leatherworker” as its skill. You can’t just set up a leather farm.
Instead, you’ll need to go out and hunt down the Pals that drop leather when captured or defeated. It requires a bit of, well, ruthlessness. You’ll have to bash those cute critters into submission.
But don’t worry, I’m here to make hunting leather as pain-free as possible with all the tips and tricks you need. Let’s dive in!
The Easiest Leather Sources For Beginners
When you’re just starting out in Palworld, there are a few Pal types that are perfect for building up an early leather stockpile:
Foxparks
These cute little fox Pals can be found in forest areas pretty much everywhere. They’re weak and only around level 5-10, making them easy pickings for fresh players.
Fuacks
These derpy bird-like creatures also roam the forests and are just as low level as Foxparks. Fuacks put up barely any resistance.
Vixy
Similar to Foxparks in looks and stats, Vixy are another easy forest Pal that will hand over leather when bested.
Rushroars
These boar Pals have a bit more hp, but their attack is nothing to worry about at lower levels. You’ll find Rushroars hanging around the edges of forests too.
I’d recommend just running loops through this forest area when you need an influx of leather in the early game. Make sure to capture the first 10 of each species for the bonus XP, then feel free to knock ’em out after that for faster farming.
For an endless leather supply later on, you’ll want to unlock the butchering ability at level 12 to double your leather drops per capture.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to get leather in Palworld, along with a table summarizing the key information:
How To Get Leather In Palworld?
- In the early game, seek out and battle the following low-level Pals that drop leather:
- Foxparks
- Fuacks
- Vixy
- Rushroars
- Explore the central forest area, as it has a high concentration of these early leather sources.
- For the first 10 of each Pal species you encounter, capture them to get bonus XP in addition to the leather drop.
- After catching 10 of a species, you can simply defeat/knock out the Pals to farm leather more quickly.
- At level 12, unlock the meat cleaver ability which allows you to butcher captured Pals for an additional leather drop.
- As you progress, hunt higher level Pals like Nox, Reindrix, Incineram, Eikthyrdeer (Terra), Chillet, Nitewing, and Univolt for more leather.
- If you need an emergency leather supply, you can purchase it from Wandering Merchants for 150 coins each. The merchant at the central small settlement is most convenient.
- Never waste leather! Have armor, saddle, tool and furniture recipes ready to utilize every scrap.
Other Useful Leather Pal Sources
As you progress through the game, there are plenty of other Pals who can keep you swimming in leather:
Pal Name | Location | Level |
---|---|---|
Foxparks | Forests | 5-10 |
Fuacks | Forests | 5-10 |
Vixy | Forests | 5-10 |
Rushroars | Forest Edges | 5-10 |
Nox | Caves | Higher |
Reindrix | Mountains | Higher |
Incineram | Volcanoes | Higher |
Eikthyrdeer (Terra) | General | Higher |
Chillet | Frozen Areas | Higher |
Nitewing | Mountains | Higher |
Univolt | General | Higher |
- Nox – These bat Pals are found in dark cave areas and drop leather consistently.
- Reindrix – An antlered, reindeer-like creature. You’ll spot them in snowy mountain regions.
- Incineram – Fire ram Pals that roam volcanic areas, perfect for heat-resistant crafting.
- Eikthyrdeer (Terra) – A formidable deer Pal that thankfully leaves behind leather.
- Chillet – These penguin Pals from frozen regions are a great leather source for cold-resistant gear.
- Nitewing – Aggressive bird Pals. Look for them around mountain areas.
- Univolt – Electric goat Pals. You can use their leather to craft batteries and conductors!
And there are many more higher level Pals that can sustain your leather needs throughout the entire game. Always check a Pal’s drops before committing to the hunt.
Where To Buy Leather (If You Must)
Farming and hunting for leather can be a grind. If you ever find yourself seriously lacking and want to bypass the violence for a while, there is one option:
You can purchase leather from Wandering Merchants for 150 Pal Coins each.
While this price is pretty steep (you’ll want Pal Coins for other things too), it can be worthwhile if you’re halfway through a big crafting project and just can’t find the time to farm more leather.
The most convenient merchant is the one who camps permanently at the small settlement area in the Center region, near my favorite forest circuit. Once you unlock that settlement as a fast travel point, you can just teleport there and hit up the merchant whenever you need an emergency leather infusion for your projects.
But what fun is that? Part of the thrill of Palworld is getting down and dirty hunting those adorable little leather piñatas. No matter how you get it, just make sure you…
Never Waste A Single Scrap Of Leather!
Leather is such a precious resource, you’ll want to make sure you have uses lined up for every single piece that comes into your inventory.
With all the different armor types out there – Metal, Pal Metal, Pelt, Refined Metal – there are tons of different leather armor sets to craft all the way up to the Legendary tier like Heat Resistant Refined Metal and Cold Resistant Pelt.
There are saddles galore for all the Pal rideable mounts, like the Eikthyrdeer Terra Saddle, Reindrix Saddle, Nitewing Saddle, Chillet Saddle, and more.
Don’t forget about tools and accessories that need leather too:
- Average, Large, and Giant Feed Bags for your animals
- Explorer’s Cap and Tricorne hat
- Dinossom Harness to control large dinos
- Daedreams, Dazzi’s, and Flopie’s Necklaces for stat boosts
- Galeclaw’s, Tocotoco’s, and Hangyu’s Gloves for climbing
And you’ll want a full set of the deluxe Leather Chair furniture for peak coziness in your tricked out camp!
The possibilities are endless for putting your leather to great use. Palworld’s crafting system is incredibly deep, which is why this resource is so crucial to effective adventuring.
So watch out for those Pals that drop leather and start hoarding it from the very start. With this guide, you’ll never be caught lacking supply for your latest leather crafting creation!
