Quartz is an important material in the game Palworld. It is used to make circuit boards that power many useful machines and weapons. But quartz can be hard to find. This guide will explain where to look for quartz and how to mine it easily.
What is Quartz?
Quartz is a type of rock or mineral that looks like spiky glass crystals. In Palworld, there is a special kind called “pure quartz.” Pure quartz rocks are black and jagged, but have white or blue glass spikes sticking out.
Regular quartz rocks just look grey and smooth. Pure quartz is much more valuable because it is rarer. You absolutely need pure quartz to craft circuit boards and advanced technology later in the game.
How to Identify Pure Quartz
Pure quartz rocks have a very distinct appearance that makes them easy to recognize, once you know what to look for. The rocks themselves are black, rough and lumpy, kind of like coal.
But the real giveaway is the spikey glass crystals protruding outwards in clustered formations. These crystals are a bluish-white color and reflect light, making them sparkle.
At night, the quartz spikes really make the nodes shine and stand out against the dark environment. During the day, they can sometimes blend in with the landscape more.
You’ll need a pickaxe to mine pure quartz nodes, just like mining any other rock or ore deposit. Higher level pickaxes like metal ones will mine the quartz much faster than a basic stone pickaxe.
Where to Look for Pure Quartz
The key thing to know about pure quartz is that it only appears in extremely cold, snowy areas. Specifically, the mountainous northern region called the Astral Mountains.
Pure quartz will not spawn anywhere else on the map besides this frozen, arctic zone. If you try looking in warmer or tropical areas, you’ll never find any pure quartz deposits there.
You absolutely must travel to the Astral Mountains biome in the far north if you want to locate and mine pure quartz efficiently. But be prepared – it is bitterly cold up there!
Best Spots to Mine Pure Quartz
Within the Astral Mountains, there are a couple prime locations that are perfect for harvesting pure quartz:
Spot #1: Coordinates -212, 249
This area has around 9 pure quartz nodes clumped together on a small hill or mound. It’s one of the highest concentrations of nodes.
Spot #2: Coordinates -256, 392
Another dense cluster can be found at these coordinates, with 8 quartz nodes plus a couple ore deposits. It’s a bit tougher to reach but very quartz-rich.
These two areas are ideal for setting up a forward operating base while mining. Having your worker Pals set up camp here will allow for easy quartz harvesting.
There’s also a distinct plateau or “mesa” near the Unthawable Lake fast travel point. This plateau has pretty good quartz spawns too and could work as a secondary mining locale.
How to Prepare for Quartz Expeditions
Since the Astral Mountains are extremely cold and hazardous, you’ll need to take some precautions and pack supplies before departing:
- Wear your warmest cold-resistant armor and clothing layers. At the very least, you need to equip a cold suit to prevent freezing.
- Bring fire-elemental Pals like Pyrin (land) or Vanwyrm (air). Their heat auras will keep you warm even in brutal subzero temperatures when they’re following nearby.
- Pack rations and dried foods that don’t require cooking over a fire. Or bring portable campfires at least.
- Extra bedrolls are a good idea too, in case you need to set up a temporary base camp.
Following these tips will ensure you can survive long enough in the frozen wastelands to successfully mine all the pure quartz you need.
Mining Tactics for Harvesting Quartz
Once you make it to the quartz-rich areas, use these simple tactics to quickly locate nodes and accelerate mining:
- Do a quick scout around at night first. The quartz crystals really stand out in the darkness, making nodes easier to spot and mark on your map.
- Work in a team if possible. Two or more miners working together can collect quartz much faster than going solo. It’s also safer with buddies watching your back.
- Use the highest level pickaxe you have, even an industrial drill if possible. This will shave tons of time off mining each node.
- Consider bringing a few extra pickaxes in case tools break from extended use.
- Portable miners and quarries can be deployed to automate mining once powered, but they are late-game equipment.
Establishing a Permanent Quartz Mine
For those who want to farm pure quartz in very high volumes, the best option is setting up a dedicated, self-sustaining mining colony run by your Pals.
Here are the basic steps:
1) Find an ideal site with high concentrations of quartz nodes close together, like the two locations mentioned earlier.
2) Construct a fortified base nearby with shelter, storage, defenses, and other necessities.
3) Assign specialized mining Pals like Digitoise and Reptyro, equipping them with the best pickaxes.
4) Also assign transportation Pals like Quivern to move quartz from the mining site to your base’s storage.
5) Make sure to plant crops nearby and build facilities to produce packaged rations to feed your workers.
6) Install campfires, forges, cooking stations and other supporting services.
7) Use Pals with passive skills that boost harvesting, carry weight, mining speed and efficiency.
8) Let them work around the clock while you’re offline! The mine will generate new riches while you sleep.
With a fully operational mining outpost set up, you’ll never have to worry about quartz shortages again. Your industrious Pal workers will ensure a steady influx to fuel all your technological ambitions.
Getting Pure Quartz Fuels Your Progress
Once you’ve accumulated lots of pure quartz, you can use it to construct powerful late-game items needed to advance further:
- Circuit boards – Crafted from 4 stacks of quartz and polymer, these unlock electric machines, weapons and more.
- Batteries – Made using circuit boards, batteries power tech like exosuits and vehicles.
- Electric Assembler – This station built with 5 circuit boards manufactures high-tech components and gear.
The key is, pure quartz essentially “unlocks” entry into the electric and explosives age of technological evolution. With ample quartz reserves, you can mass produce all the crazy advanced gadgets and heavy firepower the game has to offer.
By mastering the locations and techniques for efficiently mining pure quartz, you’ll be able to fuel your colony’s unstoppable growth into a hyper-modern military-industrial juggernaut…all thanks to those glittering crystal quarries in the cold north!
