Can I play Palworld on a Mac?

A player who owns a Mac is wondering if you can play Palworld on a Mac. The answer is no. PocketPair, the developer of PocketPair, hasn’t officially made the game available on Mac. The game is still in early development and is available on Xbox, PC Game Pass, and Steam. If you want to play the game on your Mac, then there are several ways through which you can play Palworld on Mac.

One of the ways is players can play the game on Mac through third-party software. The game isn’t natively available on MacOS which means players do need to use a Virtualization tool to install Steam and can also download the game on their Mac. Unfortunately, there is no official port available for the game. Because of the limited resources, the studio didn’t have enough resources to make the game available on Mac.

How to Play Palworld on Mac

The game isn’t meant to be played on Mac; even with the workaround, players could potentially encounter several glitches and issues.

  1. First things first, players need to download CrossOver from CodeWeaver.
  2. After installing Crossover, you can then install Steam, which is a popular game distribution system.
  3. Now launch Steam, and then from there you can download Palworld, just like we do on Windows.
  4. On Steam, search for Palworld, then click Add to Cart. From the cart, simply check out the game, as it costs $29.99.
  5. After purchasing, download Palworld.
  6. After this, quit Palworld and close Steam.
  7. Then enable D3DMetal and MSync for Steam before you launch the game again.
  8. Once you have enabled these settings, start Palworld, and then you can start playing the game.

Note: Since the game isn’t natively on Mac, you are most likely to experience some performance issues. During testing, I found the game running at around 30 FPS if there was no background activity. To get the best performance, I would recommend that players lower the graphics settings for optimal game performance and ensure a smooth frame rate.

To improve gaming performance, CrossOver has received DirectX 12 support. Make sure you have also installed DirectX 12 on your Mac. In addition to this, CrossOver doesn’t come for free. When you initially install it, it will be free for 14 days, but after it expires, you need to purchase a license.

Alternatively, if you don’t like or are having issues with CrossOver, simply switch to Whisky or use the Game Porting Toolkit. Through both, you can install Steam and then play Palworld on your Mac. So, if you want to play Palworld on Mac with Whisky, then here are the following instructions:

  1. Start by installing Whisky, then launch the app.
  2. After that, click on the + symbol that appears in the upper-right corner to create a new bottle.
  3. Then simply name the bottle, and then you must install Steam.
  4. Now head over to New Bottle and download a Windows copy of the application.
  5. Simply click Run on Whisky, which will open a new window. After this, simply drag the StreamStep.exe file to download and install Steam.
  6. Now launch Steam, then login to your Steam account. After that, you must search for Palworld, then click on add to cart to purchase the game for $29.99.
  7. After installing, simply quit the game, and then within Steam right-click on the Palworld properties, go to General Tab, and type -dx12.
  8. Close Steam, and then launch Steam and launch Palworld.

Additionally, with the help of Boot Camp, which allows players to switch between Windows and macOS, you may face some difficulty installing the multi-boot software. Furthermore, parallels are beneficial for Silicon Mac laptops. We can expect the studio to release Palworld on Mac ahead of the stable release. Palworld on Mac is unlikely to be high up on the list as the focus is on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles. Developers continue putting effort into developing the game for which studio is outsourcing developers but also Microsoft’s Xbox division is helping with their resources.

Lastly, PocketPair also has plans to expand further by making the game available on PlayStation, Nintendo, Mac, and other new platforms. There are also many things that the studio has shared with Roadmap 2024, which are expected to include new buildings, pals, and more. For this, the studio has also invited players to the closed beta to gather feedback and opinions ahead of making the game stable.
